On Saturday, September 13, I had the privilege of attending the 5th Annual Charity Golf event, hosted by Rehabilitation, Reform and Reentry Resources, Inc. (R4) and their presenting sponsor, Hands On Information Technology (HOITT). Founded in 2018 by Dr. Robin J. Bell and Co-Founder Terry Bell, R4’s mission is to change the culture of incarceration. A portion of the funds raised at this event will provide scholarships to five college-bound seniors who have been impacted by incarceration. It was an honor to support such a meaningful cause.

Making Connections and Raising Funds

As a volunteer for the event, I can honestly say it was an incredible experience. Having relocated from New York City to Maryland in July 2023, I was looking for ways to connect with my new community. This event was the perfect opportunity to meet so many amazing people from the DC, Maryland, and Virginia areas.

Earlier in the day, I helped get things ready and, of course, wrangled signatures for raffle footballs from some legendary celebrity athletes: Doug Williams, Super Bowl MVP Quarterback; Ravin Caldwell, a 2-time Super Bowl Champion and linebacker; and Raleigh McKenzie, a 2-time Super Bowl Champion and guard. All were former players for the Washington Redskins (now known as the Washington Commanders).

Later, my friend Leah and I headed to hole five to set up the Move Up 100 Yards contest. With an additional donation, golfers could gain a 100-yard advantage—a fantastic way to raise more money for the scholarship fund. It was also a fun surprise to run into my Corcoran® colleagues Cesar Rivera, Chris Brown, and Evan Lacopo! We grabbed some photos in our Corcoran gear. As someone who works from home, it was a real treat to connect with affiliates in person. After a full day in the sun, we were so proud to see how much we had raised.

A Meaningful Day of Giving Back

After everyone finished golfing, we all enjoyed a wonderful lunch, heard speeches from R4’s founders, and held a raffle for sports memorabilia. Every part of the day was designed to support R4 and the vital services they provide to our community.

The charity golf event was truly a rewarding experience, and I'm so grateful for the chance to stand with the attendees and fellow volunteers to support R4. If you'd like to learn more about R4’s inspiring mission, be sure to visit their website.
